O.K. Makatita Hall

This building was originally built by the Dutch as the Societeit Harmonie (referred to the as "the Soc.”). This club, was the social center of the ruling class and the site of dances, parties and concerts. According to Des Alwi, it is the oldest Dutch Club in the Dutch East Indies. It was built on the site of the longhouse of O.K.Makatita, one of the Bandanese leaders (Orang Kaya of Ratu village) murdered by the Dutch in 1621. The building was restored in the 1980's by the Banda Cultural and Heritage Foundation and renamed Makatita Hall, and is still used for social and official events.
